Black-and-white photo of Dorothy Florence Van Keuren with her fellow Saint Mary Hospital School of Nursing students at a capping ceremony with instructors or administrators, Hoboken, July 11, 1946.
8" x 10" print. Photograph taken by Clifton Photographers, Kearny, N.J. as inkstamped on reverse. Reverse has penciled note: Capping July 11 1946.
The group photo was taken in the hospital interior at the bottom of the main staircase. None of the individuals are identified by text, but a modern "post-it" dot was found on the glass over the face of the second woman from the right in the second row. This is not believed to be Van Keuren who is probably the first women at the left, front row (see photograph 2009.028.0001 where she is probably correctly identified.) The new students are each holding a bouquet of daisies. Staff is wearing corsages.
Van Keuren, born 1927, was 19 years old.
