B+W photo of children in costume with 6 men at 5th & Jefferson Sts., Hoboken, n.d., ca. late 1940s.Entry/Object ID
2009.032.0007Description
Black-and-white photo of a group of twelve children, mostly girls, in costume with six men in suits, some wearing ribbon badges, at Fifth and Jefferson Streets, Hoboken, no date, possibly mid to late 1940s. Digital images only; original print 8" x 10" wide. Photograph by Rossi Photo Studio, 415 Jefferson St., Hoboken, N.J. as stamped on reverse. Reverse also has penciled text at the upper left corner (contemporary or modern is unestablished) with some identifications that are not fully legible.
Item is from Vincent Cassesa.
The occasion or event is not indicated, but it may have been a May Walk as warm weather is indicated by the lighter weight clothing. The children range from circa four-five years of age to a couple girls who appear to be 10-12 years old.
While tentatively dated as late 1940s, the address of 415 Jefferson St. for the Rossi Photo Studio probably means it is earlier. It is known that the firm was at 400-402 Washington St. in 1951 and probably from 1947 onward.Acquisition
