Black-and-white photo of the full sized mock-up section of Hudson River Vehicular [Holland] Tunnel as prepared for a publication, no place, April 4, 1923.
4" x 5-1/2" wide print mounted on white board, ca. 6 x 7. Reverse has inkstamped dated: Apr 4 1924.
The photo is cropped and masked for the tunnel section at the left. The original image compared the new tunnel with the Hudson & Manhattan Railroad tunnel (right) which is masked out.
The photo in its original form was published in book "The Eighth Wonder" (1927 and again in 1931); a reference image from its 1931 appearance is attached. The text describing the image was: Plate 5. Holland Tunnel and Hudson & Manhattan Railroad Tunnel
Full-sized section of Holland Tunnel (diameter 29 feet 6 inches) and full-sized section of Hudson & Manhattan Railroad Tunnel (diameter 16 feet 7 inches). Rings weigh 16,630 pounds and 5,670 pounds per linear foot, respectively.
