Description
Black-and-white photo of interior of south tube of Lincoln Tunnel, no date, ca. 1936.
8" x 10 print. Photo taken for Port of New York Authority. Reverse blank except for pencil negative number: MT 2689 [note: MT = Midtown Tunnel]
The negative number with the MT designation places this as the Lincoln Tunnel.
A construction progress documentation photo that may have been used for publicity (there is a faint stain along the bottom back where a caption may have been tipped to it.) Long view down a partially finished tunnel; tracks present for work cars; note center track rises to allow materials to go up on the scaffolding. Wall tile work is underway with the ceiling not present.
Location has not been determined, but this section starts at a vertical ventilation shaft.
