Description

Black-and-white photos, eleven, of 604 Hudson Street belonging to Joseph Samperi, Hoboken, during and after renovations in 1951. Digital images only. Photographer not indicated. Tiffs media archive; PDF on file. Per unpublished biography by son Paul Samperi, the brownstone property at 604 was purchased in late 1950 to be used as a primary residence for Joseph and Sarah Samperi and Paul (they were selling the Continental Hotel they owned and would have to vacate their quarters there.) A gut renovation was done to old building during the first six months of 1951. It was adjacent to the Union Club which the family owned. It became a very modern style building. It is an interesting group of interior and exterior photos documenting taste in domestic furnishings and decor including the the television and the kitchen's Philco refrigerator. 001 (left to right) Paul, Joe & Sarah Samperi in Living Room at remodeled 604 Hudson St.; note television seen here, but not in the other photo of the living room, 006. 002 Exterior of 604 Hudson St.completed 003-1 and 003-2 604 with scaffolding; note Union Club at 600 Hudson to the left. 004-1 and 004-2 604 without scaffolding 005-1 Bedroom #2 006 Dining Room looking into Living Room (note the television seen in 001 is not present) 007 Living room looking into Dining Room 008 Kitchen 009 Kitchen, looking the other direction 010 Master bedroom 011 Master bedroom with beds
