Davis OK Baking Powder. Can (2 ounce?); Free Sample. (Export packaging?) R. B. Davis Company, New York; Factory in Hoboken, no date, circa 1906-1916.
Metal can with slip lid, 1-1/2" diameter x 2-3/8" high. Original printed paper label, wraparound full height; darkened with slight wear. Printed round label on top with prices. Unopened with original contents present. Bottom plain.
Label front states: Free Sample.
Company name and address on front at bottom: R. B. Davis, Office: 90 West Broadway, Cor. [corner] Chambers Street, N.Y. This address is the Gerken Building at 90-92 West Broadway which was completed in 1899.
On right side running vertically is the Hoboken address: Factory, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 & 18 Jackson St., Hoboken, N.J.
Back has directions in three languages, from top: English, German and French. This suggests this can was for export. This area also contains guarantee text about compliance with the Food and Drugs Act, June 30, 1906 which helps to date the item as no earlier than 1906. The late date is suggested by the German text which was probably not used later than 1914-1916 due to World War I.
