Maier was a former Lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserves and was based at the Naval Air Station, Memphis, Tennessee. The items being shipped home at government expense were three boxes, non military household effects.
Note that this operation of the D.L. & W. was in Jersey City, not Hoboken, at 629 Grove St. They only allowed 48 hours free storage before charges began to be incurred.
