Digital image of B+W negative image of a Hoboken Playgrounds girls marching unit on Washington St., Hoboken, no date, circa 1938-1940. Original image was ca. 4-1/2" wide x 2-1/2" high. 70 mm nitrate negative. Photographer not indicated. People are not identified.
The parade was probably the Decoration (Memorial) Day parade in late May. Julius Durstewitz., playground director appears to be the man in the foreground and the woman to his left is probably Marion Kennedy, the girl's playground program director.
The parade group in the 500 block of Washington St. marching north. The view is looking southwest. cf. photo catalog 2005.078.0538, .0540, .0541 for other views of marching units in the same location. From the variations in lighting, group arrangement, dress, individuals and parked cars, it appears that this group of images, 0538 to .0541, show parades from different years.Acquisition
