Digital image of photo of the Hoboken Playgrounds Field Band assembled on street for the opening of the Recreation Center,113 Jefferson St., Hoboken,1938. Original image was ca. 4-1/2" wide x 2-3/4" high. Plus the black-and-white 70 mm nitrate negative of the same size as the print thus the print is possibly a contact print. Photographer not indicated (print made by the People's Studio.) Ink notation in top margin: "Playground Band 1938." Reverse has ink stamped processor's number: 51; also pencil notations: "Opening of Center" (blue pencil); "Playground Band" | 1938 (39 is crossed out), " (black pencil). People are not individually identified.
Julius Durstewitz appears to be the man in suit to the left of the drum major. The view is looking south.The band is in military style uniforms. The recreation center is the building at the left. cf. photo catalogue 2005.078.0534 for a clearer view of this scene.
