Erie-Lackawanna System Trackage Map; Indicating Lines of E-L Over Which Other Railroads Exercise Trackage Rights and Lines of Other Railroads Over Which E-L Exercises Trackage Rights. Scale: 1" = Approx. 20 Miles. November 11, 1963. Office of Chief Engineer. Revised to December 9, 1965. File A-1805. Text document and PDF on file - see below under description of tables. Extensive corrections, annotations, deletions and notes extending well beyond the 1965 revision date. The latest found was November 1973. Blue line drawing with two tables: 24-1/2" high x 56" wide folded to ca. 8-1/2" x 11" high. Map with routes indicated from New York to Michigan with an inset map at upper right of New York area, scale 1" = 3 miles. (Hoboken is found on both maps.) The railroad had been created in the 1960 merger of the Erie Railroad and the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad (Hoboken was the eastern passenger terminus.) It was in economic distress from the beginning and by 1968 it had been sold to a new owner and renamed Erie-Lackawanna Railway [table entries will be found with "R.R." and "Rwy." It was no longer an operating railroad after April 1976 as its operations were taken over by other entities. Office of the Chief Engineer would likely have been in the corporate offices in New York City. Obviously a file reference copy for some ongoing proceedings (whether judicial or administrative is unstated), it provides important information about the history of both railroads (one agreement was from 1871 with a couple from the 1880s; most were post-1900). Two tables (see notes for transcription of these tables - due to catalog program limitations, the tables do not retain original format - see text document or PDF on file for formatted tables.) [1], Center bottom left: Trackage Rights Granted to E-L by Other Railroads, numbered 1 to 38 (which are keyed to entries on the map by a diamond symbol) [2], center bottom right: Trackage Rights Granted by E-L by Other Railroads, numbered 1 to 38 (which are keyed to entries on the map by a circle symbol) Each table has six columns, from left: No. Agreement Date Parties to Agreement Points Between Which Trackage May Be Exercised User Railroad Secretary's File No. Both tables have numerous changes by the use of white correction tape with blue pencil annotations, graphite pencil records in columnar form. Table [1] has notes of "Brief Made", some with a date to the left and an added column at the right side called V.P. Agreement File No. and filled with file numbers for all 38 listings. Table [2] has only 32 entries on the 38 numbered lines (some have been 'deleted' with the white tape); the same type of information as found added to Table [1] is recorded to the right of Table [2].
