Scope and Content
Hudson & Manhattan Railroad Company. Herman T. Stichman, Trustee. Specifications for Rapid Transit Cars.
(New York), no date, circa December 1955. Duplicated typewritten text (various methods appear to have been used), 8-1/2" x 11" high, 98 leaves, irregular pagination by section. One fold-out plan at rear which is dated: Nov 23 55.
See notes for transcription of Contents found on first three leaves. PDF with all leaves and drawing on file. (Single section PDF are available.)
A document prepared by the railroad for use by potential bidders in designing replacement passenger cars.
The railroad was in bankruptcy. Stichman had been appointed trustee in 1954. (In 1962 it would become the Port Authority Trans-Hudson Railroad - PATH.)
As seen in the plan at the end, the car appears to be same or similar to the ones built for the H&M as "Class K" or "K Series", the first air-conditioned subway car series in the world. The Hudson & Manhattan purchased 20 and they began to enter service on July 9, 1958.
