Description
Key for safe deposit box at Washington Savings Bank, 101 Washington St., Hoboken, no date, circa 1975-1995. Metal key, no. 848 stamped on it; engraved York Safe & Lock Co., York, PA. With: red paper wallet (envelope] with snap enclosure, 3" high x 2" wide; printed both sides.
Bank was the former Hoboken Bank for Savings which opened this building in 1929. It became Washington Savings in the mid-1970s.
The key appears to be older than 1975 vintage and may be an original key from the initial installation of the vaults in 1929. The 'wallet' is obviously later and with the back text related to lost keys: "A lost key results in a charge of $5.00. Two Keys $80.00."
