Description

Democratic Nomination for Congress, Eleventh Congressional District, John J. Eagan. No date, probably from 1922. Lantern slide, 3-1/4" x 4": glass, film, paper masks and paper tape. Hand colored. Original photographer not indicated; slide maker below. A political campaign slide from a poster for Eagan who was U.S. Representative from New Jersey, 11th District, 1913-21, 1923-25; defeated, 1920. Since poster slide does not state "Re-elect" or "Re-nominate", it is probably from 1922 when he was running again not as an incumbent. Eagan was a Hoboken businessman who founded the Eagan School of Business in 1894. From Julius Durstewitz, who was the director of the Hoboken Playgrounds and a Hoboken resident. This slide (one of a group of thirty one: photo catalog 2005.078.0900 to .0931) was for use in a stereopticon projector. The Playgrounds Department's stereopticon from circa 1918 is objects 2005.078.2100. Made by Johnston & Goodchild, 33 Wooster St., New York.
