Safety Rules. Engine, Train and Yard Service Employes. Erie Railroad Company. Effective: April 1, 1940. Form 5571 5M 3-42. Booklet, 4" x 5-1/2" high, pp [iv], 17. First leaf, pg. [i], a printed form perforated for removal that was to be filled in by employee and returned to office as acknowledgement of receipt of the rule book. No employee markings. The form number, 5571, is essentially the same as one from 1964 issued by the Erie Lackawanna. Same size, format, but fewer pages. The form code probably indicates that this was a March 1942 printing ("3-42.") Note: the spelling of "employee" with one 'e' was consistently used by the Erie as well as the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western R.R. and continued after the 1960 merger when it became the Erie Lackawanna.
