Description
Matchbook cover: Roland House Cafe, 111 Hudson Street, Hoboken, N.J. No date, circa 1934-1960. Printed card stock, 1-9/16" wide x 4-1/2" long. Inside printed also.
Since beer is promoted on the inside cover, this matchbook would not have been issued earlier than the end of Prohibition (ended Dec. 5, 1933 when the 21st Amendment was ratified) and likely is from after World War II. Cafe was at that address at least as late as 1952.
The back of the cover uses a rebus: Rest Your [image of sitting donkey/ass] In Our Place.]
