Demarest was the Superintendent of Public Instruction, Hoboken, N.J. The reader is for Grade 1 and is based on a system developed by the authors from other methods. They call theirs "Synthetic Phonic Word Method." Originally published in 1900 and a new edition issued in 1918. This copy has signatures (not by first grade students) on the endleaf dated from 1923 to 1928.
This book is part of a series of at least four books for grades 1 to 4.
