This privately owned park (that still exists) was a well-known venue to Hoboken residents. Many events were held there by Hoboken organizations especially those whose members were of German ancestry. Hoboken had many fraternal organizations, clubs, churches and sports groups related to those with German heritage (the German-American Volksfest which has taken place there annually since 1874 included Hoboken.) Political events were also a common activity.
The town of Union Hill merged with West Hoboken in 1925 to become Union City. The park itself is now part of North Bergen.
Note a sign for "Football" which in this case is probably the game we call soccer. German-American teams, then and now, called it football. The two clubs listed were the Academy A.C. and Jefferson A.C. Date of event not legible.Acquisition
