Description
Postcard: Lighting the Lackawanna Clock Tower. Copyright Robert Foster 2008. Published by the Hoboken Historical Museum, 2008. 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" high. 2 copies.
This is no. 7 of a fifteen card series (note: numbers 2 to 7 read as "of ten postcards"; series was expanded and cards numbers 8 to 15 are marked as "of fifteen postcards") issued during the exhibition, Greetings From Hoboken: A Postcard History and other related museum children's education activities and upper gallery exhibits related to school art programs.
Twilight photograph of the newly rebuilt tower looking southwest. See archives 2008.003.0017 for this card that was imprinted as an invitation to the lighting ceremony and below for the special "cancellation" for the ceremony.
The format of the back is "Greetings from Hoboken" with a reproduction of a stamp with a cancellation mark. This design was by McKevin Shaughnessy; it is a variant of the one he did that appeared on cards numbers 2 to 6. On this card, number 7, it was changed to "7:45 P.M. May 9th" which was the scheduled time and date that the re-lighting was to take place. Postcards 8 to 15 in the series are dated August 3 to Oct. 12, 2008 for an upper gallery exhibition of artwork related to kids postcard art.
All cards in the series are objects catalog 2008.003.0019 to .0033.
