A Mayrose Post Card
An aerial view looking north of the entry plaza and toll booths with with two tunnel portals. The two tubes in use and the lack of construction in progress on the third (south) tube would date the photo as from ca. 1945 to 1954.
Automobile profiles appear to be from 1940s. The area inside the curved traffic ramp at the bottom (the 'helix' as it is commonly called) is mostly undeveloped and was presumably used as a construction staging area for the completion of the second tube (1945) and later for the third tube (after the third tube opened it becamed a parking lot for cars and later buses.) These points suggest this aerial was ca. 1946 or so.
Note the six tennis courts present where the portal for the third tube would be located. After its construction, only the two northeasternmost courts remained.
