Scope and Content
Postcard: New York - Hudson Scene and Sectional View of New Tube. The New McAdoo Tunnel. Hoboken Station. 1909.
Printed cardstock, 3-7/16" high x 5-3/8" wide; divided back; unused. Issuer's imprint on back.
Black-and-white illustrations of the recently opened Hudson & Manhattan Railroad "Tubes" under the Hudson River which were commonly referred to as the McAdoo Tunnel or Tubes (William G. McAdoo was the President and driving force in completing the H. & M.)
The upper two thirds of the image is the harbor scene credited to: R.F. Turnbull, N.Y. 1909. The lower third shows the section of the tunnel (tube) with a train; a round vignette view of the inside of the Hoboken station of the Hudson & Manhattan Railroad is over the tube view. At the lower left is another credit: Photo Only Copyright 1909 By The H. Hagemeister Co., N.Y. (Apparently the Hoboken Station view is the photograph referred to and it is seen alone on other postcards - in color and black-and-white issues - in this era.)
Reverse has publisher's imprint:
No. 800. Published by The H. Hagemeister Co., New York. Printed in Germany.
