Description

Mike Gold Six. 'Tootsie Roll Twist.' Promotional ('Not for Sale') 7" 45 rpm single phonographic recording. Mr. Peacock Records MP 109, (New York, 1962.) Lola-Monument; BMI; N8OW 3927; Time: 2:05; A Newmark-Skouras Production. Later handwritten numbers (7243) in black marker on each side. See notes for commentary provided by Robert Gold, son of Mike Gold. While not made in Hoboken, the title refers to a product that was manufactured in Hoboken at that time, Tootsie Rolls, by the Sweets Corporation of America. It is unknown if there was any connection between the musical artists and the Sweets Corp. Also unknown is if the song was released or promoted beyond this stage. The 'Twist' is apparently the 'B' side of this record as the reverse has another song by the same group, 'Brand X', which is labeled 'Plug Side.' M.[MIke] Gold is the credited songwriter for 'Tootsie' and Picon-Ellstein for 'Brand X.' (Brand X is credited to Metro Music Co. instead of Lola-Monument.) Date as stated in discography of known recordings done by this label. Mr. Peacock Records is stated as A Division of Norton-Peacock Corp., New York City.

General Notes

Note

Notes: This label is considered obscure and appears to have created at least 26 records in the 45 rpm singles format in the 1961-1963 period. ==== In March 2013, Robert Gold sent this commentary via email to the Museum: Mike Gold (b. Bronx, NY 1940) has been a musician for 60 years, playing in Florida (mostly jazz) for the last 40 years. He studied music at The High School of Music and Art (now Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art since 1984). After graduating, he moved on to the Manhattan School of Music though dropping out to pursue a professional musical career. I heard this 7 inch record many times in 1974-75 when I was 5 years old. I've been searching the internet for years to find anything of "Tootsie Roll Twist" and I've finally got a bite. Mike Gold is my father. Status: OK Status By: dw Status Date: 2010-11-04
