Sepia-tone photo of a man and woman with man holding suitcase lettered "Y.D. Hoboken, N.J." No place, no date, ca. 1895-1915. Photographer not indicated. 3-3/8" wide x 3-3/16" high print on 5" wide x 4-3/4" high debossed photographer's mount.
Meaning of initials on suitcase not known. The clothes have the appearance of immigrant clothing: man with bowler or Trilby hat, cane, gloves, but ill-fitting overcoat; women with fancy bonnet, paisley shawl, handbag. The man's face appears very young.
Note at the right a ground shadow from a fence or arbor at the right edge. Looking at the arbor, the horizontal rails have probably been spaced typically at 16" apart in height. Comparing the cumulative height of the rails to the people suggests that they are indeed near adult size.
