Description

Sepia-tone photo of a boy posed in studio with church interior backdrop, Hoboken, no date, circa 1920s. 3-7/8" wide x 6" high; unmounted. Photograph apparently taken by William Manewal, 520 Washington St., Hoboken, but not so marked. (The backdrop is the same as one seen in others attributed to Manewal.) Boy is not identified and is wearing a double-breasted jacket with short pants. He holds in his left hand a catechism book and rosary with a rolled certificate in his right hand resting on the chair. He has two wide ribbon bows, one on his collar and another as an armband on his left sleeve plus a rosebud in the left lapel. A typical photograph taken to commemorate a ceremony which in this case was probably his first communion.
