Description
Digital image of sepia-tone photo of Joe 'Biggie' Yaccarino with his "Biggie's Long Island Clams" pushcart with sign above, "Biggie's Clam Bar," Hoboken, no date, circa mid-1940's. Original print was 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" high with losses as seen. Reverse was blank. Photographer not indicated. Street location not indicated. Boy is not identified.
The cart is a typical street peddler's pushcart. It is likely that this was the cart was used in the 1941-1946 period when he sold clams by going bar to from bar to bar (initially with just clam buckets, later with a cart.) He established the Madison Street restaurant in 1946. Note painted lettering.
