A cream-colored envelope addressed to M. Ballin in Munich. Three circular Hamburg postmarks are stamped across the top but the date of posting is unclear. The "100" postage stamp is a deep plum or brown color and appears to predate the Nazi regime. There is a blue, white and yellow flag of the Hamburg American Line against a blue-grey background cloud in the upper left corner opposite the postage stamp. The words "Hamburg American ?????" have been crossed out in black ink above the flag. The return address on the back flap of the envelope is from Kapitän W. Sachse in Hamburg. The envelope is empty and it is unclear what it held.
