Scope and Content

German airmail envelope with plaid lining addressed to Ludwig Ballin, "c/o Stein", in New York City. The return address is unknown--it has either been torn off or covered with the German censor label. Postmark date is illegible but the city is Munich and there are two German postage stamps, one blue and one purple. There is a cream label affixed to the back of the envelope with one circular Nazi eagle and swastika stamp indicating that the letter was opened by censors. "5G" is written by hand using a black marker in the upper left corner of the front of the envelope. "888" and "1812" are stamped in small purple rectangular boxes on the front of the envelope, similar to the stamps the letter. The envelope contained ObjectID 538.99.1.2023.
