Description

"(38) The city of 'the angels' greets the Nation's Chief--President McKinley at Los Angeles, Cal.," Underwood and Underwood, Publishers, 9 May 1901. The image shows the President at right on a dais viewing a parade in which a horse-drawn conveyance with floral decorations and women holding parasols seated in it. Crowds of persons line the streets which are decorated with American flags. Later in the year, McKinley, the second President [after Benjamin Harrison in 1880] to visit Los Angeles, was assassinated. With slight curvature, stains and soiling, and edge wear, the condition is good overall.
