Description

Color: Black; Green "Scouting for Girls: Official Handbook of the Girl Scouts," (New York: Girl Scouts, Inc., 1926), 558 pp. The book has a green hardcover with a double-line border and the title at the top. At the center is the eagle and clover logo of the organization. The title and logo are also on the spine. All of the printing on the cover is in black. Written in black ink on the first fly-sheet is, "Signalling to you / our appreciation / of your efforts. / Belfast Girl Scouts / Troop I / Pine Cone Troop / Nov. 5, 1926." Following this is a page with several blank lines for the owner's name and scout record; a title page; a dedication; a foreword; a preface; a table of contents; and the Girl Scout motto. There are 19 chapters dealing with information such as the history of the Girl Scouts; principles and organization; ceremonies, requirements, and drills; signaling; the Scout Aide; exercises; woodcraft; camping and nature study; gardening; map and knot-making; testing and medals; and a reference list. At the back is an index, a listing of the board members at the national headquarters, and a list of other organization publications. Also included are many black and white photos and illustrations. With abrasions; dented corners; some foxing; pressure sensitive tape on the inside; and light stains, the object is in fair condition.
