Description

Color: Blue; Red; Yellow; White A catalog issued by Montgomery Ward & Co., 1921. The 586-page artifact has a red paper cover with a color drawing of a large factory at the center of the top. In yellow at the left of the center is, "Ready for you! / Our New Northwest / House. Read pages / 1-5 and inside / front cover." At the right of the center is an orange seal within which are the words, "Catalogue and / Buyers' Guide." Below this is the catalog number, date, and pages on which to find ordering and mailing instructions. Across the bottom is the name of the company. On the back is a color advertisement for Cecilian Phonographs which includes a color illustration of a family of four gathered around one of the machines. At the beginning of the inside are ordering instructions, an announcement of a new branch, an introduction to the catalog, and ordering suggestions. There are a wide variety of goods available including household linens; clothing for all members of the family; jewelry; timepieces; recordings; musical instruments; office supplies; beauty supplies; sweets; sporting goods; photographic equipment and supplies; rugs; house furnishings; electrical appliances; farming equipment and supplies; and much more. Attached to the back are three order blanks. Also included are many black and white as well as some color illustrations. Found with the catalog were two packing lists which are items .2-.3. With many abrasions; creases; darkening of the pages; folds; pressure sensitive tape along the spine; surface soiling; and tears, the object is in poor condition.
