Description

Color: Black; Orange; White "101 Prize Recipes," published by the Postum Company, Inc., 1928. The booklet has 40 pages and a cardstock cover, the front of which is orange. The title is printed in black at the center of the front against a white oval-shaped background. At the bottom left is a woman in a checkered apron cooking at a table. A stamp with the name and location of the Powell Mercantile Company is at the center of the top. A title page, an advertisement for Grape-Nuts cereal, and two tables of contents, one of which is detailed, are at the beginning of the inside. The booklet is divided into nine categories of foods: baked goods; desserts; candy; main dishes; vegetable dishes; salads; sandwiches; soups; and stuffings. All of the recipes feature Grape-Nuts cereal as a main ingredient, and four of the recipes were awarded cash prizes. At the end is another advertisement for Grape-Nuts. A few black and white photographs are included. The Postum Company, later renamed Post, became part of the General Foods Corporation in 1922. In good condition, the artifact has small stains and tarnish from the staples.
