Description

PHOTOGRAPH, CABINET CARD, "105. J.M. WORKMAN'S RESIDENCE, BOYLE HEIGHTS," by Lemuel S. Ellis, Los Angeles, ca. 1880s. The image, taken from a walk approaching the front of the structure shows much landscaping on the side of the walk and in a oval-shaped planter bed in front of the home. Small trees, shrubs, two rought wood planter boxes, yucca trees, small palms, and an evergreen are of note. Some of these obscure much of the facade of the Eastlake-style Queen Anne, designed by Kysor and Mathews for Joseph M. Workman, son of William and Nicolasa in 1882. On the reverse is an ink inscription of the title and Ellis' stamp. Aside from mild yellowing, chipped edges, and curvature of the mount, the condition is good.
