STEREOSCOPIC PHOTOGRAPH, "119. PALM TREES. (TEMPLE'S)," by Henry T. Payne, Los Angeles, ca. 1873. The view appears to be from atop the 1851 Temple family adobe home at Rancho La Merced and the focus is on the large palm tree at the center behind a group of fifteen persons. Some of these are identifiable, including Lucinda and Margarita Temple, sisters of Walter P. Temple, at the far left, and Julia Davis, fifth from left. It is surmised that Charles P. Temple is nex to his sisters and Julia Davis and that Walter Temple may be the small boy held by a woman at the far right. In the background are probably orchards and either the Montebello or Puente Hills. The condition is good wit some wear to the edge of the mount and light staining to the image.Lexicon
