Description

A stereoscopic photograph, "12. Los Angeles from the South," published by H. T. Payne, Los Angeles, ca. 1872. The view is taken from about Eleventh and Main streets looking north. In the foreground is the home and farm of Elijah H. Workman, a frequent city councilman and Board of Education trustee. In the distance is the town, portions of hills and the San Gabriel Mountains in the horizon. At the upper right is a section of Main Street including its junction with Spring Street, which branches off to the left. The pasted-on caption is at the bottom and Payne's name, location of business, and the series title "Southern California" are on the margins. With major edge rubbing, especially at the corners and some heavy soiling, the condition is fair.
