Description

Color: Silver; Yellow An 1849 model Colt 31 caliber pocket revolver, manufactured in 1854. The firearm, which has the serial number 85962, was produced by the Samuel Colt Company at its New Haven, Connecticut factory. It has an ivory grip, has ornate engraving in the style of Gustav Young, as discerned by the use of repeated scrolling and wolf's heads, both of which were optional and has an added, post-production silver nameplate with F. P. F. Temple's name engraved upon it. This is noted, because a factory nameplate would have been inset. There are mostly the original stippled factory screws with at least one replacement and one missing screw. There is some damage to the hammer and cylinder from repeated dry firing. Also notable is the loading lever at the lower portion of the barrel, which was used to pack the powder and ball once they were inserted into each chamber. In fair condition, the artifact has considerable case hardening, remants of about 60% of the silver plate on the trigger guard and back strap, and bluing on about 15-20% of the overall metal portions of the weapon.
