Description

1928 CHRISTMAS/NEW YEAR'S CALENDAR AND BLOTTER Color: Blue; Green; Red; White A Christmas/New Year's Day calendar and blotter, 1928. The oval-shaped item has a red ribbon tied through two holes at the top. There is a pink colored backing board that served as the blotter and this came apart from the calendar and its board while cataloging was being done. The calendar consists of 1"H x 1 1/4"W sheets with the year 1928 in an oval border and pink and green colored designs around it. The month pages have the month at the center and the year on both left and right next to the month. The day of week and the corresponding date are show in column and row form. The board on which the calendar is adhered has a gold border, within which is a border of holly with a number of bright red berries. At the top left of this are two bells, just below the ribbon. A poem is on a blue, white, and pink shaded field within the holly border and reads "A CHEERY CALENDAR / AND A BLOTTER, TOO / TO BE YOUR HELPERS / ALL YEAR THROUGH / WITH WISHES GLAD / AND WISHES GAY / FOR A NEW YEAR / BETTER IN EVERY WAY." The blotter naturally has many ink stains and inscriptions as befits its use. Aside from the separation mentioned above, there are dents to the calendar card, and some ink stains on this card, on and between the sixth and seventh lines of the poem. Overall, the item is in good condition.
