Description
1928 OLYMPIC TOBACCO CARD: 400 METER HURDLES SEMIFINAL FINISH
Color: Black; White
A cigarette or tobacco card of the finish of a 400 metre hurdles semifinal race at the 1928 Olympic Games at Amsterdam, 1928. The image shows four runners approaching the finish line, with the winner, Viel of France, second from left. Part of the background shows other portions of the track with persons milling about, some watching the race. In the far background is part of the grandstand of the stadium, largely filled with spectators. The number "11" is at the lower left corner, signifying the number of this card in a series. On the reverse, within a Grecian-like border is the wording "OLYMPIC / Champions / AMSTERDAM / 1928 / A SERIES OF 36," with the indication that this card is the eleventh. Also described is that the photograph shows the race, which was won by Viel. The issuer's name and address is at the bottom. In good condition, the artifact only shows the barest of edge wear and what may be foxing on the reverse.
