Description

"An Illustrated History of Los Angeles County, California," (Chicago: Lewis Publishing Company,) 1889. The work, which, given that a portrait of him appears at the frontispiece, was likely written by J. J. Warner, has twenty-three chapters of the history of Los Angeles, with such main topics as the missions, the Mexican War, pioneers, railroads, the press, bench and bar, the medical profession, crimes and criminals, and material on Los Angeles and outlying communities. The last 500 or so pages contain biographical sketches of area residents and many etchings of some of them. Aside from relatively minor browning and creasing, the pages are clean and the boards were rebacked, but show many worn areas, scratches, abrasions and loss of the leather. Overall the item is in fair condition.
