"Notice of Eligibility," Los Angeles Civil Service Department (a) with envelope (b), 10 July 1903. The boilerplate document has the date, name and address of the recipient and notifies the receiver that his score for an examination for the position of hoseman for the fire department was 87.7%, making him seventh on the eligibility list. The stamp of commission secretary William A. Spalding is at the bottom. The envelope is a plain one with the recipient's address and the usual stamps. With folds, some small stains and acid browning at the upper left of the reverse of the form and a torn, stained, creases and worn envelope, the overall condition is fair.
