Description

"SKETCH OF THE ACTIONS FOUGHT AT SAN PASCAL [SIC] IN UPPER CALIFORNIA," 1846 Color: Black; White A map, "Sketch of the Actions fought at San Pascal [San Pasqual] in Upper California between the Americans and Mexicans, Dec. 6th & 7th 1846." The drawing, which came from a report on American military actions during the California campaign of the Mexican-American War, shows the region in and around the battle site. The positions of the Mexican forces, led by Andres Pico, and those of the Americans are provided both before, during, and after the skirmish, which led to a temporary routing of the Americans before they were able to force a retreat by Pico's forces. Natural features, such as rivers and hills, are noted, as are roads and marching locations, camp sites, and so on. With minor creases, light soiling, yellowing, two horizontal folds, minor foxing, and small tears from disbinding of the document, the overall condition is good.
