Description

A cabinet card photograph "2. Roman Catholic Cathedral, Main St.," Pierce and Blanchard, Los Angeles, early 1890s. The view of St. Vibiana Cathedral is from across the street and shows the front and north elevations of the 1876 structure designed by Ezra F. Kysor. A group of adults and children stand on the sidewalk near a horse-drawn carriage to the right of the entrance. To the left is a two-story brick structure and a light pole, next to which stand two men. A fenced open lot is at the far right and a tree near what may be a house at the extreme left. The photographer's cartouche is on the reverse and their name and address on the front along with the phrase "Gardens of Los Angeles and Vicinity in Midwinter." With moderate stains, fading, soiling, and edge abrasions, the condition is fair overall.
