"Development of Underground Waters in the Central Coastal Palin Region of Southern California," by Walter C. Mendenhall (Washington, D. C.: Government Printing Office,) 1905. The 162-page softcover book has an orange cover, on the front of which is the title, author's name, location and date of publication, names of the U. S. Geological Survey and its director, the name of the Interior Department, and the names of the two series based on water supply and irrigation and ungerground waters. After a government letter of transmittal and introduction, the contents include material on the coastal plain; soils and crops; the water supply; irrigation with six particular locales and other sites; a drainage district; underground water, including sources, distribution, development, effects of development, supply permanence, and a summary; a description of maps and tables; acknowledgements; well data; and an index. At the back is a listing of other publications in the series and cataloging information. Three plates, stored in an envelope mounted onto the inside of the back cover, were removed and cataloged as items 2.2-.4. With cover creases; dented corners and the top of the front cover; some cover soiling; slightly yellowed pages and cover; losses to the top of the spine; some fingerprint stains; and tears to the spine and the bottom of the front cover through page 7, the overall condition is good.Lexicon
