Description
"235 Gen. Otis Residence, L.A.," Garden City Foto Co., ca. 1900s. The image is taken across the street from the mansion of the publisher of the Los Angeles Times newspaper. The structure is a blending of Mission Revival with some Neoclassical elements, especially the projecting front porch with its Greek columns. Wide lawns, a palm tree, walks, bushes and shurbs and a driveway leading through a port-cochere are also of note, as is a man carrying a bag and walking in the middle of the street. The caption is at the bottom of the right image. The company's cartouche is at the reverse center. With edge browning, rubbing and soiling on the mount and light soiling on the image, the condition is good.
