"265 Mission San Gabriel, Established Sept. 8th, 1771", H. T. Payne, Los Angeles, ca. 1875. The view of the mission is taken from just south and east, on the other side of the Southern Pacific Railway tracks. The old stone church is within view and it is surrounded on the eastern side by a board fence. At the southern side are small wooden supports, appearing like ladders, but more likely for use in tree planting. A small portion of the roof of the adobe rectory is at the far left. With liquid stains, small ink-like stains, soiling, curvature of the mount, and edge wear, the condition is fair.Lexicon
