Description

"36. Salt Beds -- Los Ang.," The DeVry Circulations, Chicago, ca. 1910. The image shows shallow pools of sea water and a machine at the left that appears to scoop the salt onto banks on the side of the pools. At the right are large piles of salt. In the background is a small locomotive engine, presumably to haul freight cars loaded with the product. There was a salt works, the Johnson and Allanson, later Pacific Salt Works, in the "Salinas" area in what is now Redondo Beach, so this may be the location, although there is no identification as such. With some soiling on the mount, the condition is good.
