"443. The New Stage Road Above Isthmus Cove, Catalina Isl.," C. B. Waite, ca. 1890s. The view shows the road skirting a steep hillside off to the left, while the terrain slopes gradually down to the water at the right. The road winds to the right and appears to drop down and curve to the left in the distance. Further off are other parts of the island's coast.
"446. New Stage Road, Santa Catalina, Isl," C. B. Waite, ca. 1890s. The view takes in the roadway and a rider on one horse and holding another next to him. The road, strewn with branches of bushes cut for the pathway, curves off to the right in the distance. Gently sloping hillsides are to the left in the background, while in the foreground are more bushes and, at the lower right corner, something apparently quite close to the photographer.
In both cases, there is some light soiling and minimal edge rubbing and the condition is good.
