"5-Minute Guaranteed Ukulele Course," a pamphlet issued by the M. M. Cole Publishing House, 1927. The 24-page booklet has a cover with a black background, over which is a rectangluar red field, containing the title, a description of the contents, a price, and an item number. To the right and bottom are music scales and laughing and smiling male and female faces, with one of the males also wearing a necktie and the other with a bow tie, shirt and jacket and holding a ukulele in his hands. Contents include instructions on tuning, holding and fingering the instrument, playing with a pick, finger strumming and basic chordal instruction with popular songs. There are 57 chords demonstrated as well as more advanced strumming techniques like the triple roll and roll stroke. The last page features instruction on playing with a "capo," a device that shortens the strings and transposes a key from flats and sharps to a simple key. On the back cover is a advertisement for the Cole company's line of 5-minute instruction books for musical instruments. In fair condition, the cover has a significant vertical crease down the center and smaller creases throughout with some surface soiling and a few small tears and stains on the cover.Lexicon
