Description

Color: Blue; Brown; White "Card Tricks," by Professor Romanoff (Chicago: Shrewsbury Publishing Company,) 1928. The softcover 151-page book is an instruction manual for magic tricks using cards and has a plain brown paper cover with a Craftsman-style box at the top of the front with the title within it. The title is also on the spine. On the back cover is an advertisement for a Shrewsbury book on games and amusements for the home. After an introduction, the book contains sections on sleight of hand; card tricks without sleight of hand; tricks requiring calculation; tricks requiring confederacy; and tricks requiring prepared cards or sleight of hand. The book is described as suitable for amateurs practicing stage or parlor magic. Many of the tricks are illustrated with explanatory examples. At the back of the book are illustrations for other books offered by the publisher, most in the humor genre. With spine abrasions; creases on the cover corners; cover dents; soiling on page edges; light discoloration on pages; and stains at the right side of the back cover, the artifact is in good overall condition.
