Description

"76 S Spring St, L.A," probably John R. Putnam, ca. 1900s. The view is taken from a second floor balcony which has pipe fencing and looks out southward from between Third and Fourth streets on to the thoroughfare. There are many smaller commercial structures and a few taller ones, including the Angelus Hotel. The hostelry opened in 1901 at the southwest corner of Spring and Fourth. Horse-drawn vehicles and pedestrians are also of note. In ink on the reverse is "Putnam" which may refer to photographer John R. Putnam, who was active in Los Angeles at the time. With curvature of the matte, some soiling and moderate fading, the overall condition is good to fair.
