"227. Soldiers Monument, L.A.," unattributed, ca. 1900s. The view shows a woman sitting on a cannon mounted on a Romanesque base with the monument behind, on which is text about it being for the 7th California Infantry during the Spanish-American War. A plaque on the face of the monument has the names of 20 soliders who died in the war. The monument is set amidst heavy foliage in what was then Central Park, now Pershing Square. With moderate fading, soiling and rubbing, the overall condition is good.Lexicon
