A postally unused tinted photographic postcard titled "Grading Oranges, Cal.," published by Tichnor Bros., Inc., Boston and Los Angeles, ca. 1905. The image shows a dozen workers standing at or near a conveyor bringing oranges into a large room of a packing house. One man, at the left, is shown working, while the others look toward the camera. Crates are stacked against the wall at left, next to sorting bins at the center and on the floor in the right foreground. The bins, next to which five workers, four men in aprons, and one woman without an apron, stand, are full of fruit. Three men stand on a raised platform in the back where the conveyor begins. Two men, one in a suit, indicating a foreman or plant manager, stand and sit to the right. At the bottom left is the title and the number "525" is at the bottom right. On the reverse are two areas, the left for correspondence and the right for the address and each are so indicated. At the top right is "POST CARD" and a box for a stamp. At the left edge is the publisher's name and locations. The number "2" is written in pencil in the stamp box and another pencil inscription "sipa / 767" is at the upper left. With light edge rubbing, small corner creases, minor soiling, and light finger marks on the reverse, the overall condition is good.Lexicon
